Rumor: Iconic Character to Receive a Surprise 'The Force Awakens' Action Figure

"Force Friday" is exactly one month away and fans are eagerly anticipating our first opportunity to buy merchandise from Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens (outside of the chaos at San Diego Comic Con, of course), which hits theaters this December.  While few products have been officially revealed, there have been plenty of leaks to give fans a sense of what they can expect to see on shelves on September 4th.  However, a new report from Jedi Temple Archives has more than a little surprised at a figure we may be seeing.  It's unclear if this figure will be released on September 4th or at some point later in the year.  This could definitely be considered a spoiler, so if you are trying to avoid all The Force Awakens spoilers stop reading now.  This is your SPOILER ALERT!

According to Jedi Temple Archives,

"Of particular note, there is an EPISODE VII Darth Vader 3.75” 5POA figure. More on this soon! (That may just be the spoiler of the year!)"

So the question is, why is Darth Vader getting an Episode VII action figure?  We know from the second teaser that Vader's helmet is in the film, and it would seem reasonable that the burnt up helmet could be included as an accessory with another figure (Kylo Ren, perhaps?)  But why a whole figure?  Could Vader appear in the film, by way of flashback or Force vision?  That would be cool, but it seems odd that Disney would allow that to be spoiled four months before the film is released.  My guess is it's just a Vader figure on a The Force Awakens card back.  You can bet Hasbro and Disney want to keep capitalizing on the iconic nature of Vader and putting him on an Episode VII card could be symbolic gesture.  Still it seems odd that it's being called an "Episode VII Darth Vader," and not simply a original trilogy Vader on an Episode VII card (we assume the Kylo Ren packaging will be used for all Star Wars merchandise from Force Friday on, even if it's not Episode VII related).

One way or another we'll find out in the coming months, whether that's in the toy aisle on September 4th or in the theatre on December 18th.

As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
