While principal photography from the first Star Wars Anthology film Rogue One is expected to begin any day now, the only confirmed cast member we know of thus far is Felicity Jones. Lots of rumors have circulated about this film, and the latest one is most intriguing. Today, the BBC is reporting that Jonathan Aris has been cast in Rogue One. They sight the actor's Spotlight page which lists Rogue One among the actor's several credits. Aris is perhaps best know for his role in the BBC series Sherlock, among others. The listing also reveals which character Aris will be playing. Read below if you want to know more, if not, go no further. This is your official SPOILER warning:

As you can see, Jonathan Aris is said to be playing "Senator Jebel" in Rogue One. This begs some questions, like how a Senator could be involved in the plot of this film, which is said to focus on a group of Rebel soldiers stealing the plans to the first Death Star. Most fan speculation so far has pointed to Jebel playing into dissolution of the Senate. In Episode IV: A New Hope we learn from Grand Moff Tarkin that the Imperial Senate has just been dissolved by the Emperor, largely because the Empire can subsequently rule the Galaxy through fear of the newly completed Death Star. Because Rogue One deals with the theft of the Death Star plans, we can assume it takes place just before A New Hope and may also explore some of the political unrest that was mentioned in the 1977 film, such as the dissolution of the Senate.
Of course, all of this is rumors at the moment, coupled with speculation. We won't know anything for certain until we get some confirmations from Lucasfilm. Aris joins a long list of actors who are rumored to have roles in Rogue One, including Forest Whitaker, Ben Mendelsohn, and Diego Luna.
Star Wars: Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards and opens in theaters December 16th, 2016!
