The Friday schedule for San Diego Comic Con was revealed today and with it the mystery of when the panel for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens in Hall H will be taking place has been solved. The panel will take place on Friday at 5:30pm PST.
I have to say this is a really weird choice on the organizers part. Lucasfilm's other official panels preview all of the upcoming books and collectibles all take place earlier in the day (schedule here). While there technically isn't a conflict between the Star Wars panels, Comic Con aficionados can attest to the fact that Hall H is notoriously difficult to get into, with people camping out over night to secure a spot. Combine that with the fact that the room is not emptied after each panel, meaning many people choose to just stay in Hall H all day and see all the panels there. This means Star Wars fans will have to choose between seeing the books and collectibles panels or seeing whatever JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy have in store for Hall H.
It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense and seems to be unfair to Star Wars fans. Had the The Force Awakens panel been scheduled for earlier in the day there would have been less of an issue as fans would have only had to miss one or two of the other Star Wars panels if they wanted to see the Hall H show.
Regardless, it will be exciting to see what is revealed about The Force Awakens at Comic Con. Could we see another trailer? Maybe some clips? An official poster? Might we see the on stage reunion of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford? I guess we'll find out at 5:30pm PST on July 10th.
