Marvel's 'Star Wars #6' Shakes Up Han Solo's Backstory

By: Benjamin Hart

It's not often that plot developments in Star Wars storytelling make news headlines, but sometimes things happen in the Galaxy far, far away that are just too big not to talk about. The latest Galaxy shattering revelation comes from the latest installment of Marvel's ongoing "Star Wars"Comic series, which was released today. Issue #6 deepens the plot of the series further, set immediately after A New Hope, focusing on Luke Skywalker as he journeys back to Tatooine and the home of his deceased Jedi Master Ben Kenobi. The issue also follows Han and Leia and features the introduction of a brand new character that has been turning quite a few heads lately. Read further with caution because we will be talking SPOILERS for Star Wars #6  from here on out...

The new character is a Woman named Sana Solo. As here last name implies, she is related to Han Solo. Their relation? She's Han's wife, or so she says. You can see her make the revelation in an excerpt from the comic below:

Understandably the reveal of this character sent shock waves across Star Wars fandom, many reacting negatively to the news. Was Han cheating on someone else when he (later) had a relationship with Princess Leia in the Original Trilogy? It's a legitimate question, but I think it's one we need to have patience in finding an answer for. This revelation is left unresolved in this issue, so we'll have to wait and read future issues to see where this goes. Han's got some serious explaining to do now, both to Leia and us fans.

So what do you guys think? Does this fit with Han's character and the overall Saga? Or is this a misstep for the comics? Let us know in the comments below, or in Club SWU!

  1. He is a smuggler and a scoundrel, makes sense that he has women all over the galaxy.

  2. I can see this going two ways, and I like both of them:

    1) This is a cliffhanger moment that'll be resolved quickly after the Obi-Wan side story, but they wanted something to keep you thinking about what it could mean...this woman is portrayed as a bounty hunter, an occupation that doesn't carry with it much of a reputation for an honest individual...I'm guessing she's just using the "wife" angle to get Han away from Leia so she can take him in without having to go 2 versus 1.

    2) She really is, well, _was_ Han's wife...the relationship dissolved, probably because Han is a bit of a womanizer, and she's bitter because she was done wrong...and I don't mean done wrong in a poor victim kind of way, but more in a Kill Bill kind of way...i.e. in a bad ass way.

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Special option 3) They were married, had a kid, and named him Finn...BOOM!

  4. Finn isnt their kid, he would be 40+ years old, not the young kid in the next movie. This plot line is DUMB and meaningless. We already know how things turn out, so who cares about these stupid filler comics.

  5. Yes I know, I thought that was obviously a joke...and we don't _know_ how things turn out...we know they were together after the the Battle of Endor, but we have no idea what happens after that...we're all just assuming they stay together like they did in the old EU...honestly, I find anything new and different they do interesting and refreshing simply because it's new content in the galaxy I love...if all they did was rewrite the old EU, what would be the point of calling it "Legends" and starting over? To each their own, though, of course...
