It was more than ten years ago that Hayden Christensen brought Anakin Skywalker to life in Episode II: Attack Of The Clones and Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith(hard to believe, isn't it?) And while many, including myself, enjoyed Hayden's performance, there are still some who remain less than impressed with the actor's portrayal of the hero, and later villain. Thanks to IGN, we know of at least one high profile fan of Hayden's work. Nicolas Cage recently spoke with the site about his new film Outcast, wherein he stars alongside Christensen. Here's what he had to say:
"George Lucas is a dear friend of my family... I watched George's movies and I saw the work that Hayden did with George and I was very impressed with Hayden's sort of edgy, dangerous, dark and still soulful performance. I thought it was superb, so I really connected with him. Plus he has a look in his eyes that I respond to... he's got the sad thing going on that I've always been accused of having in my eyes."
This is one of Hayden's first acting jobs since 2010, so it's good to see him return to the big screen, as well as get some much deserved praise for his work in the Star Wars Galaxy.

great to hear! Hayden is an excellent actor and I love his performance as Anakin...screw the haters! glad he's still working and doing what he loves to do
ReplyDeleteHe never had a chance to live up to what Star Wars was. Especially the mantle of Darth Vader. But he was awesome and I love the prequel trilogy
ReplyDeleteI think Hayden's main problem was the awful dialogue. Lawrence Olivier and Marlon Brando would've struggled with some of that script.
ReplyDeleteIt polarizes things a lot and gives rise to unnecessary antagonism when a simple criticism of something gets labelled as being hate. Hayden is most likely a fine actor since he still finds work after Star Wars. I tend to agree with the fact that poor dialogue and direction was the main cause of Hayden's limited success as Anakin.
ReplyDeleteHe had a few good performances in the prequels, but for the most part he was horrible although he didn't have much to work with in the way of dialogue. He was great in "Life as a House" and "Glass". He deserves a second chance for sure.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I still cringe when I think of, "...it's coarse. It gets everywhere." and with Palpy "...I would certainly like too." So, so bad.
