Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams was honored with the Visual Effects Society Visionary Award yesterday and naturally the topic of Star Wars came up. Abrams said, "Spending the last two years in the world of light sabers and tie fighters has been absolutely challenging and a dream come true." Abrams also made a point of thanking Lucasfilm President and The Force Awakens producer Kathleen Kennedy for giving him the opportunity saying, "I want to thank Kathy Kennedy for saying the words, ‘Do you want to direct Star Wars?’ and actually being in a position to let me direct Star Wars."
Abrams also spoke about the award he won, saying that him winning the award was "clearly a clerical error. But mostly, I just work with a whole lot of
incredible VFX artists. This is what made me want to get involved in
movies."
Congrats to JJ for his big win, we can't wait to see what he, and his incredible team of VFX artists have in store for us on December 18th, 2015.
