Last week we got word that Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany, along with several other actresses, was screen testing for a lead role in the first Star Wars Stand Alone Film, directed by Gareth Edwards and slated for a December 16, 2016. According to a new report from Total Geeks, Maslany has been selected to star in the new film.
While this has yet to be officially announced, more evidence of this came when word got out that Maslany had dropped out of the off Broadway production of The Way We Get By, with Amanda Seyfried taking over in her role. With filming expected to begin very soon on Star Wars, it would make sense that Maslany would need to clear out her schedule in order to head to Pinewood studios in London (and who knows where else).
As an Orphan Black fan and fellow Canadian, I would love to see Maslany in the first stand alone film!
As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
