Another alien species from the classic trilogy looks to be poised to appear in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Latino Review is reporting that Hutts will be in the JJ Abrams directed film, slated for a December 18, 2015 release. According to LR's Da7e, "Well, I can forward that timeline for you today: there are Hutts in The Force Awakens, we know because those Hutts have been practically built. I know there is more than one Hutt, but unsure how many exactly are going to show up."
MakingStarWars.net also reminds us of a piece of concept art they reported on, but weren't sure it was for The Force Awakena several months back that seems to back this. The piece is described as,
Leia and the Hutts – There was a production sketch done very very early on which showed Princess Leia standing in the middle of several Hutts. She was wearing a maroon dress (political style) and was flanked by two soldiers (they looked to me like the Naboo guards from Phantom Menace but to others they looked like the rebel soldiers from the beginning of A New Hope.) The picture looked as if she was having a meeting with them. She certainly didn’t appear to be captive or under threat. I have no idea if this sketch has anything to do with the movie that is being shot as it was very early on.
If this all turns out to be true, I think a great nod to The Clone Wars animated series would to have a grown up Rotta the Hutt (no, we don't have call him "Stinky") having taken the place of his father Jabba. I doubt that will happen, but it would be a nice touch.
As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
