Rian Johnson has pretty much been confirmed to be the director of Star Wars Episode VIII (and possibly IX), even though Lucasfilm has yet to comment on his involvement with the Saga. Now Johnson himself has begun talking about Star Wars. Sun Times reports that Johnson was a guest on Filmspotting Podcast and some interesting things to say about Episode VII, in a less direct fashion.
“I’m really excited about all the things I can’t tell you... I wanted to to play in this world, of literally the first movie my dad put me in the car to see,” Johnson said about his new project. He also went on to say that he assumes getting the job "was a clerical error, like in the movie ‘Brazil.’ There’s a Brian Johnson out there who is really mad.” He added that working at Lucasfilm is “kind of like summer camp.”
He also had something to say about previous Star Wars films, saying that, “There was something really beautiful about the prequels,” and stating his belief that 4-6 then 1-3 is his preferred viewing order of the original six because “storytelling-wise, 4-6 were constructed without the knowledge of the past.”
Be sure to check out the Sun Times' full summary of what was said at the event. Also, the Podcast episode that features Rian Johnson is scheduled to be released this Friday, so be on the lookout for that on Filmspotting.net.
