IGN has new rumor that, to be honest, I'm surprised hasn't come up before. IGN Middle East is reporting that Simon Pegg (Star Trek, Mission Impossible III, Shaun of the Dead) has been cast in Star Wars Episode VII. Pegg was reportedly spotted filming this "secret role" on the Abu Dhabi set.
Pegg is no stranger to the Star Wars universe, having played Dengar on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He
is also a vocal fan of the original trilogy (and only the original
trilogy). He has worked with JJ Abrams several times in the past,
including the two most recent Star Trek films, and on Mission Impossible III.
Pegg had previously shot down the possibility of him being in Episode VII, telling The Independent, "I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to be in it, to be honest. I think J.J. should cast new faces with no stunt casting." There's a possibility this statement from September 2013 was part of an elaborate ruse to hide the fact that Pegg would be in the film. It's also possible that in the past few months, the situation on Episode VII has changed and a part for Pegg was opened up. That being said, I doubt he'll be in the film and if he is it will be an Easter egg cameo.
