More cast members for Star Wars Episode VII were confirmed today.  Lucasfilm announced that Lupita Nyong'o (12 years a Slave) and Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) will be joining the cast.  Lucasfilm President and Episode VII Producer Kathleen Kennedy told StarWars.com "I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII.  It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape."

Nyong'o is best known for her work in 12 Years a Slave, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.  Christie is best known for her role as Brienne of Tarth on HBO's Game of Thrones.  The two actresses are joining returning stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker, as well as fellow new stars Daisey Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Issac, Andy Serkis, Domhall Gleeson, and May Von Sydow.

It's nice to see more female actors being cast in the film, after the initial casting announcement only included two female stars (Fisher and Ridley).  Also, the addition of Nyong'o adds more diversity to the cast, which is always a good thing!  While I can't say I am very familiar with their work, 12 Years a Slave and Game of Thrones have impressive reputations and I look forward to seeing both of them in Episode VII.

Star Wars Episode VII opens on December 18th, 2015.
