A report from Jedi Temple Archives seems to be a further nail in the coffin of the Expanded Universe as we know it. JTA is reporting that Hasbro has been told by Lucasfilm to stop making Expanded Universe Characters going forward. This also means there will be no more re-releases of previous expanded universe figures. The only exception being the recently released Darth Malgus, Bastila Shan, Republic Trooper, and Starkiller, all of which will be re-released due to the poor distribution during their first run. But after that, it seems the door is shut on EU characters.
JTA is also reporting that "we will see a huge cutback on the characters from the Prequel Trilogy as well." The difference being that prequel figures will still be made, just in smaller numbers than what we have been seeing for the last several years. The reasoning for this seems to be Hasbro putting a focus on Original trilogy and Rebels characters.
I can't say I'm surprised about this. I've assumed we're in for a major continuity reboot for the post-Return of the Jedi timeline ever since the announcement of the sequel trilogy. All signs seem to be pointing that way between this, the Sword of the Jedi book series on hold, and some hints of a reboot dropped on twitter. It seems it's only a matter of time before it's made official.
