During a recent episode of the Full of Sith podcast,
host Bobby Roberts revealed that he heard from multiple sources that
academy award winning actress Dame Judi Dench, best known for her role
as M in the James Bond series, will be playing Mon Mothma in Star Wars
Episode VII.
This
is very interesting rumor and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Dench
is talented actress and has the pedigree to be in anything she wants.
However, I worry that having her play Mon Mothma might be too similar to
her role as M. That being said, I do think she has the acting chops to
pull it off.

See, this is the problem with putting back old characters: there has been too much time between movies to have the same actors/actresses fill the roles, so therefore we need new realities. This rumor does not make any sense because there has not been talk yet of who specifically will be in the new movies. Besides, Mon Mothma was always a very minor character. It would make no sense to suddenly cast a big profile actress into a very minor role into a movie that does not require a minor role to become the focus point. This rumor is false.
ReplyDeleteActually this rumor makes sense to me. In the EU Mon Mothma becomes the head of state for the New Republic and also serves as a mentor for Princess Leia who then becomes Head of state after her. What better mentor and leader of the New Republic then Judy Dench? She is a strong woman who has played queens and persons of authority in the past. Who commands and makes the hard decisions Mon Mothma for the New Republic.
