Latino Review is reporting that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is in negotiations to star in Star Wars Episode VII. Meyers is best known for his television work on the Tudors. Meyers is also set to play the title character on NBC's Dracula. Initial speculation is that Meyers will play Luke Skywalker's son in Episode VII, although, as Lightsaber Rattling points out, he is considerably older than Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen were when they were cast in the lead role of their respective trilogies.
It seems a bit too soon for there to be any casting announcements outside of the big three. Remember that director JJ Abrams just wrapped up his work on Star Trek: Into Darkness and likely is just beginning to really sink his teeth into Episode VII and thus hasn't really had time to begin casting. It seems unlikely that any casting would take place without Abrams approval.
For one, he wouldn't be Luke Skywalker's son because Ben Skywalker is super red-headed and this dude does not fit the bill at all. If anything, they should have Rupert Grint (Ron from Harry Potter) or Zach Ward (Transformers) do this part. They look younger and actually have the red hair.

ReplyDeleteWe don't know whether these movies will in any way be connected to the expanded universe. It may ignore them completely. I think facially he resembles Hamill far more than Ford - so I'd go with that.
