It's official! After over 24 hours of speculation a statement was released on StarWars.com confirming that Star Trek & Super 8 director J.J Abrams will indeed be taking the directors chair for Star Wars Episode VII. Included with the confirmation were quotes from Kathleen Kennedy, George Lucas, Dennis Muren, Ben Burtt & Matthew Wood. All praised Abrams for his previous works and expressed their excitement about J.J's appointment. Abrams himself had this to say:
"To be a part of the next chapter of the Star Wars saga, to collaborate with Kathy Kennedy and this remarkable group of people, is an absolute honor... I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid."
Along with Abrams, Bryan Burk and Bad Robot will produce the films. Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg, who were previously reported to be writing episodes VIII & IX, will be consultants for Episode VII.
All of us at the SWU welcome Mr. Abrams to the Star Wars family! May the Force be with you as you live long and prosper!
