Opinion: A Star Wars Fan's New Year's Resolutions

1) I will face reality regarding Episode VII: Mickey Mouse will not be a Jedi Master. There will not be a tap-dancing Luke Skywalker. Now that 2012 is over, I can officially begin listening to rumors and speculation. We are roughly 24-30 months from a new Star Wars movie and the time has come to discuss directors, writers, storylines, and which trilogy will be the "right" trilogy. Odds are Disney fully realizes the seriousness of the franchise. This means we can expect movies along the lines of the "Avengers" and not like "Herbie Fully Loaded".

2) I will not squeal every time Hasbro announces a new line of figures: 'nuff said.

3) I will be open to new ideas...as long as they don't revolve around a cartoon rabbit from Naboo: "Scoundrels" is coming, "Kenobi" is coming, and more of the Star Wars Universe will unfold before our eyes. A lot of questions will be answered, but not all of us may enjoy the answers we find. But that's okay! In the grand scheme of things, more Star Wars is good Star Wars...with the exception of Jar-Jar Binks.

4) I will demand better quality from my Clone Wars episodes: Yes, droid arcs are cute. Jedi Younglings are so adorable. But how can we go half a season with minimal Anakin, zero Ventress, barely any Dooku, and only a hint of Darth Maul after WEEKS of hype? These are the "Clone Wars", right? I understand an occasional side episode is good to shake things up and give us insight into the galaxy as a whole. However, there has been zero progression this season out of 11 episodes. That's 253 minutes of filler.

5) I will believe what I believe: Love the prequels, hate Greedo shooting first, love Karen Traviss, despise the Blu-Ray editions, whatever you truly enjoy, enjoy it with all your heart. However, back it up with reason, logic, and with tolerance for someone else's beliefs. As long as there are people, there will be different ideas. You will never convince me that Jar-Jar Binks was a great addition to the Star Wars Universe. I will never convince others that Greedo shooting first was a great idea. Tolerance is a wonderful thing. You may not convince me that Attack of the Clones was a wonderful movie, but I will respect your opinion as long as you are respectful of mine. In the end, isn't that what anyone wants?

Well...that and a lightsaber that actually works.
