J.J. Abrams Turned Down Episode VII Director Job

We still don't know who will be directing 2015's Star Wars Episode VII, but we do have a long list of people who aren't, including J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Super 8).  Abrams spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, recently, and revealed that he had been approached by Lucasfilm President and Episode VII producer Kathleen Kennedy about directing the film and that he had turned it down.  Abrams explained that:

"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that, because of my loyalty to Star Trek and also just being a fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version of those things.  I declined any involvement very early on. I’d rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."

So, what do you think?  Do you agree with Abrams logic?  Or would you have liked to have seen Episode VII directed by Abrams?  Let us know in the comments
