New Clone Wars Preview Clip

By: Dominic Jones

After months of the #SaveTheCloneWars campaign, it's nice to have a little good news about Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  While it's by no means the return of the series we were hoping for, USA Today has released a new preview clip from one of the upcoming Bonus Content story arcs.  The clip features Plo Koon leading the Wolf Pack on some kind of search mission through a sandstorm, culminating in a most interesting discovery.  Check out the clip below:

The USA Today article also features an interview with Supervising Director Dave Filoni, who makes some interesting comments about the previewed arc saying, "The Jedi have been fighting a war with an army that was commissioned by one of their own, Jedi Master Syfo-Dias.  But who was Syfo-Dias, and what happened to him? The dark lord of the Sith has woven an intricate web to ensnare the Jedi, but it is not full-proof and sometimes a small clue, and a bit of chance, can lead to the unraveling of the best-laid plans"

The interview also touches on Filoni's future at Lucasfilm, his excitement about JJ Abrams and Episode VII, as well as his thoughts on the season 5 finale, specifically Ahsoka's decision to leave the Jedi Order.  Like any interview Filoni gives it is definitely worth a read as he is master of hints and teases without giving anything away.  The article and the clip both provide hope that the Bonus Content will indeed be more than just two arcs.

The end of the preview also hints that we may be seeing even more Clone Wars, or perhaps learning where we'll be able to find this bonus content, in the coming week.  As with Filoni's video announcement that the series was winding down, this clip ends with a title card which reads "Keep Checking StarWars.com for Updates", however this one also includes the hashtag #MayThe4thBeWithYou.  Does this mean we can expect another update on our beloved series on Star Wars Day?  It certainly seems like a logical time to make an announcement about where and when we can see the bonus content, or perhaps drop a "Bonus Content Mega-Trailer", like we've seen for past seasons.  Or it could mean, nothing and is just promoting other May the 4th festivities.

Regardless, it's so nice to be seeing new Clone Wars again....

Opinion: #SaveTheCloneWars Twitter Protest - Thank You

By: Dominic Jones

Fandom never ceases to amaze me.  The turn out for yesterday's #SaveTheCloneWars Twitter protest was astounding!  I will admit, I feared this protest would turn out to be nothing more than a few friends and I trying to make it seem like we were making more noise then we actually were.  Boy was I wrong.  When the clock stuck 9:30 am PST, thousands of Save The Clone Wars tweets from fans began to pour in.  Fast forward to 9:30 pm PST and the the tweets were still coming!  That's right 12 hours later and (at least) every minute there was a new tweet bearing the hashtag #SaveTheCloneWars.  Like Savage Opress, it truly was a sight to behold.

The tweets came from fans of all types.  Men and women, children and adults, teenagers and grandparents; everyone chimed in.  But it wasn't just your average fan either.  Rick Fitts, who's made appearances on Star Trek and just about every other TV series ever made, took to Twitter and let Disney know that he loved the show.  Megan Rath and Sam Huntington, the stars (along with Sam Witwer) of Being Human, participated and got the word out.  Even Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News spoke out in support of the show.  Everyone was out to support The Clone Wars.

Given that massive layoffs have taken place at Lucasfilm Animation, the chances of actually saving the series may be slim to none.  But we accomplished something greater than that.  We were loud and it will be next to impossible for Disney to ignore the over 7000 tweets that poured in from fans showing their support for the show.  It is now a matter of how they will react.  Hopefully, we taught them to think long and hard before they decide to cancel something so beloved again.

The greatest thing that happened, however, was something that was never considered when planning this protest.  Not only did we (hopefully) get through to Disney, in the process we also reminded the cast and crew of The Clone Wars how loved they are.  It was as much a thank you to them, as it was an attempt to save the series.  It is for that reason, above all else, I consider Saturday a success.

But the fight's not over!  Keep letting Disney know you love the series, drive the message home.  Make sure they don't make this kind of mistake again!  If you haven't sent a letter already - WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?  Send one now and let your voice be heard.  Keep tweeting @Disney and using the hashtag #SaveTheCloneWars.  Make sure they think twice about decisions like this in the future.

I want to say a giant thank you to everyone who tweeted and to everyone who helped spread the word.  Special thanks go to:

#SaveTheCloneWars Twitter Protest - Saturday March 23

Let your voice be heard!  If you are passionate about saving The Clone Wars animated series, then we need your help!  We live in an age where through social media anyone can have their voice heard and anyone can make a difference.  It's time to put that to use.  On Saturday March 23 at 9:30 am PST/12:30 pm EST we are asking fans to get the hashtag #SaveTheCloneWars trending on Twitter to show Disney how vast and passionate the Clone Wars audience is. Fans are also encouraged to tweet @Disney and @starwars, if enough tweets are sent to each of those accounts, the decision makers will take notice.

Our message is simple.  We are asking Disney to reconsider their decision to "wind down" the hit animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and to allow the series to continue to it's planned ending.  These actions, combined with the letter writing campaign already in progress, could have a profound impact on Disney and their decisions going forward.

We can't do it alone and we ask that everyone spreads the word.  We need as many fans as possible to be ready and tweeting if we are to save our beloved series.  Pass this along to friends, share it on your Facebook page, discuss it on your podcast, tweet about it, do whatever you can to make as many people aware as possible.  The more people that are involved the better our chances of success will be.

Twitter has helped overthrow corrupt dictatorships, perhaps it can help us to #SaveTheCloneWars....

It's Now or Never - Talking Points to #SaveTheCloneWars

By: Dominic Jones

It's a dark time for fandom.  The Clone Wars, the animated series that has captured our hearts is on its way out to make room for new projects.  While these projects are exciting, there is no reason The Clone Wars can't move forward as well.  It's now up to the fans to convince Disney that the series is viable and deserves to continue to it's natural conclusion.  And time is running out.  There are reports that the "bonus content" fans were promised when the announcement that the series is wrapping up was made will NOT include conclusions to the stories of some of the series most beloved and intriguing characters, including Ahsoka Tano, Darth Maul, Captain Rex and Asajj Ventres.  On top of that, there are now reports that Disney has already begun massive layoffs at Lucasfilm animation.

But there is still hope.  Over the past month and a half, RebelForce Radio has been organizing a letter writing campaign to Disney CEO Bob Iger, politely expressing our desire to see The Clone Wars continue and we are hearing from inside sources that it's having an effect on Disney!  A great start, but this is no time to stop, if anything it proves that we need to work harder to save The Clone Wars.  Letter writting campaigns have worked on Disney in the past.  SaveTheCloneWars.com reminds us that both Kim Possible and Princess Mononoke were saved by fans through letter writing campaigns.

So, if you haven't written a letter already, get started now.  The secret to our success will be a combination of passion and logic.  If you're reading this then no doubt you have a passion for the series, be sure that it comes across in your letter.  But passion alone is not enough.  We have to prove to Disney that The Clone Wars is a viable production.  To help do that, here is a list of facts (viewership, awards, and award nominations) that can be used as talking point in your letter to Disney:

-Average 3.3 Million viewers per episode (via Daily Variety January 4, 2013)

-Guinness world record for highest rated animated sci-fi series

-Won 2009 Golden Reel Award (awarded by Motion Picture Sound Editors, USA) for Best Sound Editing - Television animation (Beat powerhouses such as Family Guy, Spongebob Squarepants, The Penguins of Madagascar, and Avatar: The Last Airbender)

-Won 2010 TV.com NOW award for best animated series (beat powerhouses Futurama, Family Guy, and Archer)

-Clone Wars Annie Awards nominations:
2013: Animated effects in an animated production, Character animation in an Animated television/broadcast production, Editorial in an Animated Television or Other Broadcast Venue Production, Voice acting in an Animated television or other broadcast venue production
2012: Animated effects in an animated production, Best general audience animated TV production, Editing in Television production, voice acting in a television production (x2)
2011: Best Animated Television production, Best voice acting in an animated television production (x2), Writing in a television production
2010: Music in a television Production
2009: Best music in an Animated Television Production or short film

-Nominated for a Saturn award in 2009 (best syndicated/cable series)

-Nominated in 2010 Teen Choice awards (Choice TV: Animated show)

-Nominated in 2010 for Television Critics award (outstanding Achievement in Children's programming)

Make sure you remind Disney of (at least some of) these facts, as it is facts like these may well be key to convincing them that the series is worth saving.

There are multiple people that could have an impact towards saving the series.  There's Disney CEO Bob Iger, who ultimately has final say.  There's Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, who could put some major pressure Disney to bring back the series.  There's George Lucas, who has the influence over both Kennedy and Iger necessary to save the series.  And finally there's John Lasseter, the Chief Creative Officer and head of both Pixar and Disney animation.  A vote of confidence from him could go along way to convincing Disney that the series is worth saving.  Their addresses are listed below:

Disney Studios
500 S Buena Vista St
Burbank, CA 91521
Attn: Bob Iger

Lucasfilm
P.O. Box 29901
San Francisco, CA 94129-0901
Attn: Kathleen Kennedy

George Lucas
P.O. Box 2009
San Rafael, CA 94912

Walt Disney Studios
500 S Buena Vista St
Burbank, CA 91521
Attn: John Lasseter

Now, I fully understand that sending letters from places outside the U.S can be costly, fortunately there is another option.  The kind folks over at 11ThirtyEight have volunteered to collect online messages from fans and send them to Disney.  Be sure to include your location in the world as it will help prove to Disney that The Clone Wars has a truly international audience.  Submit your message here.

One final thing that can help, be vocal on social media.  Use the hashtag #SaveTheCloneWars in any tweets about the series.  Tweet @Disney and @StarWars and let them know you want to see the series continue.  Visit the Disney and Star Wars Facebook pages and leave comments about having the series continue.   Make lots of noise and maybe the powers that be will notice.

No matter how you go about contacting Disney, Lucasfilm and anyone else who could make a difference remember one thing above all else: BE POLITE!  Nobody likes getting hate mail and messages that insult the decision makers will have an adverse effect on what we are trying to achieve.  Be polite, but strong in your arguments and beliefs.

So there you have it.  The contact info for the decision makers and the facts that could save the series.  This, combined with your passion, is what can ultimately #SaveTheCloneWars.
