For over a decade now rumors have circulated about a possible live action Star Wars television series. "Star Wars: Underworld" was a series that was developed by George Lucas himself, and ultimately shelved, prior to the Star Wars creator selling Lucasfilm to Disney. Ever since Disney took over there has been talk that Underworld, or something like it, could be brought to the small screen. Now it appears we have our first bit of hard evidence that a new series is actually on the way!
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour the ABC network's entertainment president Channing Dungey was quizzed about the possibility of a new primetime Star Wars television series. Dungey not only expressed interest in the proposition, but confirmed that negations are indeed happening regarding a new series. Here's what she had to say:
“Oh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘Yes’... The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.”
Later she further confirms that talks between Lucasfilm and ABC are "ongoing" and that an official timeline has not yet been established. Dungey would not confirm if this proposed series will be live action, but that's something that seems like a given anyway.
After many years of hoping and speculating, it sounds like we're on the cusp of live action Star Wars storytelling finally making the jump to the small screen(no, the Holiday Special doesn't count). This is incredibly exciting news!
In what era would you like to see this new series set in? The Old Republic? Prequel, Original or Sequel trilogies? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

the old republic for sure. not enough love for that era. mandalorian wars would be great for a tv show
ReplyDeleteI agree. Id Definitely love to see more stories from the Old Republic era
DeleteSorry, but the holiday special is canon...
ReplyDeleteI think an origin series on the force. Perhaps where the Jedi and Sith orders began. Perhaps all the way back to 36,453 BBY and the Dai Bendu.
ReplyDeleteShadows of the Empire... Keeping all the Original Trilogy stars off camera, but tell the story of Dash Rendar and Black Sun, and the SkyHook station...
ReplyDeleteDamn!!!!! That never even crossed my mind. That would be amazing. Bringing Dash back into cannon like that might actually work. But if they didn't do that I would an Underworld series set after Jedi.
DeleteTrawm trilogy on TV screen!
DeleteI want the Star Wars Underworld show. I want something on courscant under the empire, not focussing directly on the emperor or any charter we have met, without much mention of the force (except maybe the church of the jedi people)
ReplyDeleteThe mandalorian wars or an underworld scenario would be great ala game of thrones style that delves into the politics amongst other areas would be great.
ReplyDeleteThey should make the series about the original split between the dark and light Jedi/the 100 years war! Also not do it on ABC, smaller network that has already done high quality shows like FX or AMC
ReplyDeleteDefinitely childhood and teenage memories and adventures of Han Solo... That would be fun... Ultimately leading to whatever will be in the standalone movie...
ReplyDeleteIve always wanted an anthology show that doesnt follow a particular story, but rather jumps thru all the time periods and tells standalone stories. Of course a few shows could be a continued arc at times, but it would be great to tune in each week and not know what you we're going to see. Maybe this week we would see a story involving a Jedi from the prequel era, next week a story involving young Luke on Tattoine. The following week a Palpatine orgin story ect.
ReplyDeleteI would like it set in the Republic period, and eventually see the events of Episode 3 (ROTS) retold from the perspective of those on the street.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see during the old republic Era when sith and jedi were plentiful.
ReplyDeleteHow about CSI:Coruscant?
ReplyDeleteI would love to see previous Old Republic. The dawn of space travel, the beginnings of the Jewish and Sith
ReplyDeleteAn Obi-wan tv series between prequels and orginal. In Tatooine. Following the schema of the old 1970's KUNG-FU with David Carradine. Obi-wan crashes his ship on the other side of the planet and has to cross the dessert on foot. He has no money. helping people and fighting boumty hunters and tuskens as he remembers his teachings in the Jedi Temple as flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteEver since watching Young Indiana Jones I've thought a TV series adaption of the Han Solo Triology would be ace. It's got just about everything a live action series could want for, and could easily be expanded upon.
ReplyDeleteThe era between Episode III and IV would be nice. One or two year after Episode III to start would be nice. That we can see how the people on the street experienced order 66.
