John Williams Discusses The Music Of 'The Force Awakens' In New Featurette

 By: Benjamin Hart

One of the biggest parts of any Star Wars film is always the iconic music, which has been scored thus far by the legendary John Williams in all seven of the current films. While it's still unclear whether Williams will return for Episodes VIII or IX, The Force Awakens introduced us to a plethora of new themes that we will no doubt hear again. In a new featurette released by Lucasfilm, John Williams discusses his long awaited return to Star Wars and explains how he went about creating the themes for Rey, Kylo Ren and others. You can watch it below:

All the new themes by Williams were outstanding and I can't wait to hear more!

  1. I thought the new soundtrack was disappointing. In my opinion it is probably the weakest in the series.

    1. I'm honestly on unsure on the soundtrack. It isn't amazing as a whole, but it has some peices that I absolutely love

    2. I have to agree. Although it wasn't as bad as Attack of the Clones.

  2. It seems that way at first listen, but then as you relisten to it. You start to notice some subtle themes and motifs that actually work well. Granted I only truly liked about 5 of the songs.

  4. On the whole I think it's near the bottom with AOTC. It has good stuff though: Rey's theme, Jedi Steps, Kylo Rens theme. Loved Jabba Flow but that wasn't on the soundtrack.

  5. At first, it didn't do much for me. After seeing the movie the first time, I didn't remember any theme leaving the theater. But, listening to the soundtrack alone, I soon learned to love it (especially Rey's theme, and the two last tracks. Amazing.

  6. It has definitely grown on me the more I listen to it. What really fascinates me is what score themes they will go for in 'Rogue One' given it's time line with 'A new hope'.
