Warning: This Story Contains Spoilers from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If you haven't seen the film yet, stop reading now!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens featured many returns of actors to their iconic roles from previous Star Wars films. But there's one actor who's return you may not have noticed. Apparently Ewan McGregor recorded some new Obi-Wan Kenobi dialogue for the Force vision/flashback that Rey experienced in Maz Kanata's castle.
This information comes by way of James Arnold Taylor, who voiced Obi-Wan on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, who says that he originally recorded that dialogue but was then replaced by Ewan.
@maxreborules it was me originally but they replaced me with some guy named Ewan McSomething... 😜

@t_betts94 yes, it was me originally but they replaced my version with Ewan. I guess if I'm gonna be replaced it should be him! 😀

Did you catch the new Obi-Wan dialogue? And does this maybe open the door to more Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan stories (Anthology film or Force ghost in Episode VIII)? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Just got back from my second viewing
ReplyDeleteSome storm trooper dialog has been taken from IV
Listen when Rey is about to climb down the large chasm
You can here a trooper saying "did you see the new....." Same when Ben was at the tractor beam relay.
Also near when they capture Phasma you can here " we think they may be splitting up" from when Han, Chewie, Luke and Leia are trying to get back to the Falcon on the Death Star
flad tou caught the "splitting up" part. they made me laugh when I heard it in the theater.
DeleteI saw the movie three times by now and yes, it definitely was Obi-Wan saying "Rey"... and just after you hear Yoda saying "...it surrounds us and binds us...". I think that was a beautiful touch. :)
ReplyDeleteI totally heard Obi-Wan say "Rey" during that scene. I also heard Yoda talking about the Force. I wonder if we will see their Force Ghosts in the next movie...

ReplyDeleteMy Theory: Rey walks into the room where Luke Skywalkers light saber was held what i think is that his light saber held dark memories and the spirts of the jedis he met what i think is that the Jedis passed the force down to Rey the skill in the end of the movie where rey is fighting Ren (Hans son) i think the jedis helped Rey fight him. She fighted like Obi-Wan the skills were similar the reason why the latest star wars is named the Force Awakens is because when she touches it the force reaches out to Rey and guided her along another Theory is that i think Rey is Luke's Daughter i think Obi-wan is still alive somewhere he is somehow comunicating with Rey. i hope this makes sence :)
ReplyDeleteQui Gonn.. Learned how to contact the living after he got sliced up by maul.. Maybe he passed that knowledge to Obi
DeleteObi wan alive somewhere??? Not sure if you've seen Episode IV but he was cut down and appeared as a force ghost in Episode V & VI...
DeleteCould it be that Ray is Ren's sister? Like Leia and Luke?
DeleteQuick Gon did teach yoda who taught obi the way to become force ghosts. . Yoda tells obi in revenge that he had been communing with his old master and he had some things to teach obi. That's why TPM is an important movie
DeleteYeah good theorys, i also believe its lukes daughter, finding him using the force was part of her training. Im also betting Rey turns out to be the strongest of any jedi.

DeleteIf she was Luke's daughter. .I feel that both Leia and Luke and even Han would've had a stronger reaction when they saw her. I feel we are only going to have one new skywalker
Delete@JordanAnderson is go back and watch the fight, Rey actually fights almost exactly like Darth Sidious. With her lounges and aggressive strikes..I think there may be a Palpatine connection in some way...
ReplyDeleteIf***
DeleteHow crazy would that be?!
DeleteI thought that too, but Rey has a staff that she has used in fights for years. She most likely lunges with her staff when she fights, which you can see in the beginning of the movie
DeleteRey's finding Luke's lightsaber and ensuing visions reminded me of Luke fighting Vader on Dagobah as part of his training... Was it a dream? Was it an illusion?
ReplyDeleteRey's finding Luke's lightsaber and ensuing visions reminded me of Luke fighting Vader on Dagobah as part of his training... Was it a dream? Was it an illusion?
ReplyDeleteAs Rey's force vision is ending you can hear Obi-Wan's voice saying "These are your first steps..."
ReplyDeleteI don't remember hearing Obi Wans or Yodas voices...but now I'm going to have to see it again lol. I will say this though. Her Progression to use the first even though she's had no formal training speaks alot about how powerful she actually is. I believe she is the most powerful if all the jedi. I also think somehow she is a Skywalker. To see her lightsaber skills as she miwed duwn Kylo Ren...was simply awesome. I fell in love with Rey in December 18th :-)
ReplyDeleteForce* Mowed* On*
ReplyDeleteShe is Deffinetly Strom in the force and qas able to use it despite no format training very quickly which to me means she is definetly connected to the Skywalker family..aka strongest force users since that bloodline comes from the force directly but to sag she's the most powerful jedi ever is a stretch...yes she beat kylo but remember kylo's also not fully trained...last Dialoge is supreme leader snoke saying to bring him to him to continue or finish it.
ReplyDeletegreat theorys i defintaly tink shes a skywalker. as star wars is the story of redemtion throught the skywalker family, essentially the story of anakin skywalker. there is no BODY I REPEAT NO BODY more powerfull in the force than anakin. he was born of it. his abilities were LIMITLESS untill he became vader :(. LUKE has been stated by lucas to be the most powerfull jedi there is and EVER will be rey will never come close o luke or anakin but shes exceptionally powerfull and should be on par with them
ReplyDeleteIf she is Luke's daughter, which I felt was a distinct possibility as well, you would have thought there would have been at least some mention of Mara Jade? Also... why no mention of Jacen and Jaina Solo??
ReplyDeleteThose books are not canon anymore, which means they are no longer looked at as actual Star Wars storylines.
Deletebut jj changed the names because ben was the name of lukes son but jj changed this to become han and leia's son and i too think rey is lukes daughter but at one time in the movie i wondered if she was rens twin ?? and snook could be darth plagues the wise and also mara jade who married luke was the emperor palpatines secret apprentice so she would be strong with the force too, didnt pick up on hearin obi wans voice, i will wait till it comes out on DVD , but interesting seeing rey as a young girl and a ship flying of into the distance and maybe finn ( which is not his real name) could be lando's son and would of loved to see wedge play a part in episode V11 too
ReplyDeleteThe actor who played wedge did not want to be in the movies. I hope snoke turns out to be plagious. All of the old books are just stories now. There isn't,unfortunatly, a Mara Jade.. and as much as I also wanted Rey to be kylo's sister she is not
DeleteYou guys serious? Mara jade, Jacen and Jaina and Ben Skywalker aren't star wars canon.
ReplyDeleteThat was the first phrase I said when I saw the movie. Hah they ruined it.
DeleteI loved how the corridor in the dream was the corridor from Empire when Luke is stalking Darth Vader on Bespin.
ReplyDeleteYes when that scene opens you can hear vader breathing
DeleteDoes anyone think Captain Phasma might be Mira Jade since Rey has no remebrance of her mother and father? But who took care of Rey when she was young? Like Luke in episode IV you saw uncle Owen and Aunt Beru but if Rey is Luke's daughter it would explain why General Leia hugs her and why Luke is crying when Rey meets him for the very first time.
ReplyDeleteThis came to me as an idea last night. Luke knew Kylo (Ben) can read minds-figured out how to do it himself, maybe even had taught Ben. He hid the map piece, Rey and the Falcon on Jakku. He then wiped Rey, Leia and Han's minds to protect the sister/cousin/Obi Wan's granddaughter. Went into hiding until she was old enough to help him defeat supreme leader and Kylo Ren since he couldn't wipe his own mind.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't hidden in the falcon. . It was with the old guy who wasn't given a name. .. but he knew Kylo. And what had happened. . He gives it to poe who puts it in BB8. Luke's leaving because he failed is enough of a reason for Leia to not know where he was
DeleteI find our lack of canonical knowledge disturbing...
ReplyDeleteObi-wan is 100% dead but able to force ghost. New characters from TFA are not going to be EU book characters in disguise. EU books are no longer canon.
I just watched the scene. There is no dialogue at all?
ReplyDelete1.) No offense, but some people need to go back and watch the original trilogy. Obi-Wan died and appeared as a force ghost, so of course he can communicate with the living.
ReplyDelete2.) All signs appear to be pointing towards Rey being Luke's daughter (the X-Wing doll, the X-Wing helmet she put on with the number "V" on it..it wasn't Luke's helmet, but his call sign was "Red V," the lightsaber vision was very heavy with experiences from Luke's life). I don't think she is Leia and Han's daughter because you would think that Han would have recognized her and had some father/daughter dialogue with her. Also, if Leia was her mother and dropped her off on Jakku, then you'd think their embrace at the end would have been a lot more emotional since she wouldn't have seen her daughter in years. It makes more sense for Rey to be Luke's daughter because he went into hiding and likely had her hidden to protect her.
My theory is that Rey is Luke's daughter and either him or her mother (or both) hid her on Jakku once the new Jedi order fell in order to protect her. He left just enough clues for her to find him, and only her. R2 activated when Rey was at the base. I think Luke hid most of the map in R2 and had him go into low power mode only to be activated when Rey was around. R2 has a strong connection with the Skywalker line, I don't think it coincidence that he came back online after Rey arrived. The force visions she had by simply touching the object are not anything new. In the new canon comics, when Leia goes to Naboo and walks in the hanger where the Maul/Qui-Gonn/Obi-Wan duel took place, she felt cold and had a brief vision of Maul's face. She could sense what happened. I would think that this would work both ways with the force. I think Rey's vision was a combination of the past, present, and future. Remember, Luke could see when Han and Leia were going to be in trouble in Bepsin.
All good theories but can anyone explain how the light sabre ended up at maz kantanas place and also how the old man at the start of TFA had acquired part of the map
ReplyDeleteWas it Lukes lightsaber or was it Anakins second lightsaber? Or are both the same? Are we speaking of the lightsaber which was used to kill Count Dooku, cut off Mace Windu arm and decimated the younglings in the temple. If the earthquake didn't separate Kylo and Rey - who knows what would happen? So please guys indulge me. I saw a lot of anger, hatred and aggression in Rey while she fought Kylo. From which side of the force was she pulling the strength to defeat Kylo? Light or Dark?
