JJ Abrams Has High Praise Rian Johnson's Episode VIII Script

By: Dominic Jones

JJ Abrams' time in the Star Wars director's chair may done, with the next installment in the saga being directed by Rian Johnson.  Abrams, who will still be an executive producer on Star Wars Episode VIII, has read the script for the sequel and, according to Greg Grunberg, he loves it.

Grunberg, who plays X-Wing pilot Temmin "Snap" Wexley in The Force Awakens, told The Washington Post,
“He read it and said something he never, ever says,” Grunberg, who plays pilot Snap Wexley in the new film, tells The Post’s Comic Riffs. “He said: ‘It’s so good, I wish I were making it.’

“He may have said something one time on ‘Lost,’ with Damon [Lindelof, the co-creator],” continues Grunberg, whose credits on Abrams series include “Lost” and “Felicity,” “but I never hear him express regret like that.”

Production on Episode VIII is expected begin in January with the majority of the main cast returning (with one, sad, obvious exception).  Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, also shared her thoughts on the Episode VIII script recently, calling it "very good".  Some scenes involving Mark Hamill were shot for Episode VIII back in September at Skellig Michael (you know, THAT location from the end of the film).

As for Grunberg returning, he didn't confirm anything but, he did reveal that while shooting the film he shot a bunch of reaction shots but refused to say the line "I'm hit."  Maybe Snap will be the Wedge of the new trilogy.

  5. Not to defend Jerry, but TFA missed something. It felt more like an action movie than a typical SW movie.

  6. EP VIII didn't suck as it was 95% recycled plot lines and scenes from the original 3 movies, so it can't have sucked :P

  7. ...no, it really did feel like a Star Wars movie.
And I don't know if you know this, but all the original SW movies were loaded with action

  8. Was someone expecting him to say he did NOT love it? Really?

  9. The fact that supposed Star Wars fans can be so polarizing and disrespectful of one another is why I left my Star Wars club years ago, and no longer admit I am a Star Wars fan.

Is it so hard to simply say "I didn't care for Episode xx"? Is it so necessary to call a Star Wars movie crappy or garbage? I can respect anyone who didn't care for the prequels or didn't care for this movie. We all have our opinions. But to completely belittle a movie (or anything) that other people really enjoy (and some who worked very hard to create) is reprehensible and vain.

As for myself, I am a true Star Wars fan for the last 37 years. I loved ALL the movies. And have watched all of them more times than I can count. They all have flaws. But they are all magical and bring out the kid in me. Unfortunately, they tend to bring out the immature, entitled, spoiled brat in too many. It saddens me, and makes me feel sorry for you.

May the Force be with us all.

  10. I'm with Jerry. Episode 7 was a very entertaining flick with fantastic production values but the story certainly was very weak.

  11. I have mixed feelings about Episode 7. People are entitled to their opinions about things. Some people will like what others didn't. What it boils down to is that what you think about the movie... doesn't matter to anyone else. If you didn't like something, don't let your own disappointment ruin someone else's enjoyment of it. Don't belittle that person because they loved something that you hated. They don't care what you think and you should care what they think either.

  12. At least we got a Star Wars movie at all, after 2005 we weren't even going to get another movie. So at least we got something and it was a good movie ,all of this whining and complaining is why George sold it in the first place. And now that we have a fresh start and take on the stories people still want to bitch and complain. just watch and enjoy it for what it is

  13. Personally I really wanted to like this movie, I did enjoy it for the most part but there were some really bad ideas in this that just scream out at you. Rey being able to pilot and repair the falcon better than Han and chewie???
R2d2 in a depressed coma, which he conveniently wakes up from at the end??? Rey being able to use the force and a lightsabre, better than luke, like a master having had no training???
I mean come on! This is in no way up there with the original trilogy. Really need I say more!

  14. Why does greg grunberg come off as obnoxious to me. Just seeing him in the force awakens took me out of it. I was watching star wars until he showed up.
