Vague Details About the Backstory of the Lightsaber in 'The Force Awakens'

By: Dominic Jones

We've know for a while that the lightsaber that once belonged to Luke Skywalker and his father Anakin Skywalker before him would play a role in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.  This, however, raised the question of what happened to the lighsaber after Luke lost it above Cloud City and how did it get where it is at the start of The Force Awakens.  The new Launch Bay exhibit opening at the Disney Parks contains a clue as to what happened.  The Laughing Place tweeted this image of the prop on display at the Launch Bay,
As you can see the placard describing the prop states that,
"Anakin Skywalker constructed this weapon at the start of the Clone Wars, and it was later passed to his son, Luke. Luke lost it in battle on Cloud City, but someone salvaged it from the city’s industrial depths."

While it's nothing major, it does begin to give us some understanding of how the lightsaber got from where we last saw it in Episode V to where we find it in Episode VII.
