Last week a bittersweet story came to our attention about a terminally ill Star Wars who had asked to see Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens early. The powers that be at Disney and Lucasfilm subsequently granted his wish, and today we have learned that he has passed away at the age of 32.
Daniel Fleetwood was a lifelong Star Wars who given only a few months to live after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. He and his family subsequently worried that he would not make it to the release of The Force Awakens on December 18th and took to the web to make his story know. Soon after millions of Star Wars fans around the world rallied in support of the "#ForceForDaniel" campaign, gaining the attention of director J.J. Abrams, Disney and Lucasfilm, who graciously agreed to screen The Force Awakens at Daniel's home. Daniel reportedly was "blown away" by the film.
Earlier today Daniel's wife Ashley posted the following message on Facebook:
"Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end. He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace. He will always be my idol and my hero. Please hug uncle Marc for me and give Lucy lots of kisses. Rest in peace my love."
Fans everywhere have took to social media to react to the news. Among them was The Force Awakens star John Boyega who tweeted the following:
#ForceForDaniel glad you got to see the movie more importantly that you slept in peace. God bless you man x x you inspire me xx
