BREAKING: New 'The Force Awakens' Teaser Released Online

By: Dominic Jones

A brand new, albeit very short, teaser for Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens has been posted to the official Star Wars instagram.  The teaser features a combination of shots we've seen before and some very exciting new ones.  Check it out for yourself below,

What's exciting is this new teaser seems to feature about half new footage and half stuff we've seen before.  We see the shot from the Korean TV spot and the Kylo Ren in the forest shot from the first trailer again, but we also get a cool new shot of Rey and BB-8 on a green planet and a shot of Finn holding Luke's old lightsaber.  This final shot seems to be in the same location we see Kylo in, with the implication being we are about to see those two face off in a lightsaber duel.   Also, it sounds to me like we're hearing a different take of the now classic "There has been an awakening" dialogue from Andy Serkis' Supreme Leader Snoke.  Also, is that new John Williams score I hear?

I have to say, this was an exciting surprise for this Thursday!  It's exciting to finally, officially, get to see one of our heroes wielding a lightsaber on screen, as up until this point we had only seen the villain using one in the first two trailers.  Also, you have to wonder what Rey and BB-8 are looking up at (though if you've read the spoilers you may have an idea).

  1. O.O That's not Luke's old lightsaber... Look at the emitter housing, just above his hand; there's a gap there that Luke's didn't have. It's gotta be a whole new lightsaber :D Maybe one he learned from Luke how to make?

    1. That is definitely the same style saber luke had. That gap between the emitter housing is caused by the ring in the that connects the two bunny ear tabs on a graflex.

    2. You do realize that Luke's ( Anakin's ) Blue blade Lightsaber was lost when Darth Vader cut off his hand, right? Luke then built his own Lightsaber that had a green blade. So no that Lightsaber is not Luke's.

  5. Wow. I was hoping for something awesome like the second trailer, but that's it? Huge let down.

  6. That's Anakin's saber Finn is using, the one Luke lost along with his hand on cloud city.

  7. Finn is either really angry or scared in this short. Will the Dark side be calling to him?

  9. There is perhaps nothing more dangerous than an angry, untrained Force-sensitive...and I think that's definitely Luke/Anakin's old lightsaber, there's just a slight difference in the blade due to better CGI perhaps...or maybe everyone else always had the other side out...

  10. No more anger than Kenobi
    Kenobi Vs Maul
Maybe Less than Anikan Vs Dooku (Part 2)

remember that the lightsaber in the 2nd trailer is Vader's light saber... the one Obi Wan comes upon when he mutilates Anakin on Mustafar. That isn't Vader's rebuilt saber which is incinerated in the energy beam at the end of ROTJ. Luke's lightsaber (green crystal) hasn't been seen in either trailer but that's likely the one that Rey ends up with (that skywalker family love, yo). The saber that Finn is rocking (and the one being handed off in the 2nd trailer) is clearly Anakin's confiscated saber that was given to Luke and consequently lost on bespin.

since both rey and finn are force sensitive, it makes sense that with two available lightsabers (the passed down luke saber and the uncovered anakin/luke saber), they both end up with their own. that must imply that either luke has built a new, better one for himself or is so ridiculously powerful, he decided he didn't even need one lolol
