It seems as though a classic Star Wars character will be getting a new look in The Force Awakens. Last month photos of some Episode VII merchandise leaked, specifically a table and some chairs adorned with imagery of various characters from the films. Some of which featured C-3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8. Some fans pointed out at the time that Threepio's left arm looked red in color, but most of us assumed that the picture was simply distorted. Fast forward to today, Jedi News' Marc Zachacki just tweeted a photo of a soda can he apparently acquired in Mexico. The image on the can appears to be the same one on the merchandise, only now we can see it much clearer. It appears Threepio does indeed have a red arm.

Now you're probably wondering why C-3PO's left arm is red. And believe me, I'm as clueless as you are. But I think this, among many other things, are a sign of the times. The new Stormtroopers, the redesigned X-Wings, Threepio's arm, and even the fact that Han Solo is now wearing a jacket instead of a vest, are all visual cues that suggest a lot has happened since we last saw our heroes. It's been thirty years since Return Of The Jedi, it would be odd if things weren't different. So perhaps prior to The Force Awakens Threepio has an accident and requires a new arm, but no gold replacements are available? All we can do is speculate until Episode VII hits theaters December 18th!Source: Twitter

Don't forget the new millennium Falcon radar dish!! Remember the old one was knocked off in Return of the Jedi death star battle!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they scrapped the idea of Chewie's mechanical arm and made it 3PO's although that doesn't work if they stay with the injured Chewie at the pirate cove plot device.
ReplyDeleteIf both characters have replacement arms that will seem really stupid. Not to mention the stupid floating hand after the crawl. Those two things bother me but otherwise this movie looks like it'll own!
Most likely from an R3PO - Red protocol droid model.
ReplyDeleteIt's a concept Lucas started from the beginning. Remember, Threepio always had one silver leg, too!
ReplyDelete^Exactly! People often forget about the Silver leg. In fact, if we're going off the official Canon, we've only really seen Threepio completely Gold in "The Clone Wars" & "Revenge Of The Sith".
DeleteI like it. C3-P0 was always a hodgepoge. He was unplated in episode 1. He was grey in episode 2. He was polished gold in episode 3, and then he lost his leg and had it replaced with the silver one. I think giving him a red arm in the sequel trilogy would be in keeping with the theme of his harrowing journey surviving the history. I think its funny that he is becoming more patchwork as time passes.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's in the possession of Kylo Ren now...?
ReplyDeleteWonder what beverage that image is on. Coke? Pepsi? Corona?
ReplyDeleteIts a product made in China by Cool Gear, Inc called "CoolGearCan"

These are sold here in Mexico by HEB
DeleteIs it me, or does that arm look disproportionately large compared to the rest of him? It's as if not only could they not find him an arm of the right color, they couldn't find one the right size either...anyway, if it doesn't actually happen in the movie I hope they don't bother to explain it and just act like that's always how his arm is, much like with the silver leg people have referenced...if they make a big deal out of why his arm is different I feel like it'd be off-putting...
