BREAKING: 'The Force Awakens' Character Names Revealed!

By: Benjamin Hart

Over the past few weeks Star Wars fans have been enjoying the excellent teaser trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, re-watching, analyzing and discussing it to no end. In it, we see five brand new characters whom we don't even know their names... until today. Entertainment Weekly has partnered with Lucasfilm to officially unveil the names of each character in the trailer, and in a very unique, retro way. Much in the same way scenes and characters from A New Hope appeared on Topps trading cards released with that film, they have now released 8 cards for The Force Awakens, some of which feature the names of the new, unknown characters! Check them out below, but of course, SPOILERS if you don't want to know anything about the movie:

“I’m only sorry we couldn't give everyone a stick of gum," Director J.J. Abrams remarked to EW. He also confirmed that the numbers on the card do hold some type of significance. EW also mentioned that more cards could be on the way.

And, I must say, Wow! This is awesome! Big thanks to Lucasfilm and Entertainment Weekly for sharing this awesome info and further teasing us! And in case you haven't figured it out yet:

John Boyega as Finn
Daisy Ridley as Rey
Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron
Adam Driver(Presumably) as Kylo Ren
and BB-8 as himself

You can see all of them in action, and whole lot more when The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18th, 2015!

  1. I like the name Fynn, seems fitting. Poe i am lukewarm on, and slightly bummed he is not a darklighter. Kylo Ren sounds like a cool name, but I hope he also has a "Darth" name as well. Rey sounds cool, though I still think this is just her name until it is revealed she is Kira solo. Lastly BB-8 I REALLY don't like. Nothing against the droid itself, just really liked the rhythm of Letter_# - Letter_#. Or at least not the same letters. Saying "BB" makes me think of a small children's toy-gun. I would have prefered BR-Q8 or BL-8G or such. *shrugs* could have been worse, but it will take a while to let the names gel in my mind.

  3. Rey in spanish means King, so in the translation it's not a good name for a girl, her name must be Reyna that means Queen, I think...and in effect BB sound like BEBE that means Baby...baaaad...However in Southamerica we known R2D2 as "Arturito" jajaj

  4. Fynn? Rey? Kylo? Sounds like characters from a Disney kids film about good looking students from a musical high school. Oh wait... that's exactly what this movie is going to be. Bring back lucas all is forgiven

  5. I'm really not sure what to make of these names, I mean is it an 'official' wind-up? These names sound ridiculous to be honest: Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, Finn and Rey. Something is not quite right about them, they just sound so un-Star Wars to me.

  7. I really like the names, also Finn and Rey seem like a shorter name or a nickname. Since it's only a first name and not also a last name like the other 2.

  8. love isaacs and Boyegas names, i do expect Poe to be referred to moslty as darkfigher, in my opinion rey will just turn out to be kira solo this is very similar to Abrams handling john Harrison and khan, I like drivers name but I think it will change when he meets Serkis' character

  11. Think about names like Han, Luke, Leia, and Ben before they became iconic. The new names ARE pretty Star Warsy
