If you're a current player of the MMO Clone Wars Adventures, I have some bad news. Sony Online Entertainment(SOE) has announced their plans to shut down the game, among others, on March 31st of this year. This, along with the shut down of Star Wars Galaxies in 2011, leaves Bioware's The Old Republic as the sole Star Wars MMO, at least for now. SOE's senior Director of Global Communications Michele Cagle had this to say:
“At Sony Online Entertainment, we are always evaluating our portfolio to ensure we’re providing players with the best gameplay experiences. At times, as part of this commitment, we have to make the difficult decision to sunset a game so we can refocus our resources on other areas in the best interest of our company and player community.
With that said, it is with a heavy heart that we announce our decision to discontinue development on Free Realms, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes and Wizardry Online. Although these closures will occur later this year, in the spirit of full transparency, we are announcing this now so our players have time to adjust to the news and make plans to enjoy the time remaining in these games.”
More details about what can we expect in the next few months was revealed on the CWA Forums:
"The game is now at a stage in its cycle where players are growing up and moving on so we have mutually agreed with LucasArts to sunset the game on March 31, 2014. We will be sending the game off in an exciting way that players would come to expect for this epic franchise."
Does that mean upcoming gameplay will tie into the much anticipated 'Bonus Content' which is tentatively scheduled for release within the next few months? Let's hope so! It would certainly be a fitting end for the game.
Ultimately, this action makes sense, due to the TV series coming to a close soon itself. But let's not forget that the horizon for Star Wars gaming is not bleak at all. Star Wars: Attack Squadrons was recently announced and is currently in Beta testing, meanwhile, the next Star Wars Battlefront is currently under development! And I'm sure, taking into account fans obvious interest in MMO RPG's, Disney & Lucasfilm will work to replace Clone Wars Adventures with bigger and better games.
They should keep it at least one more year :(
ReplyDeleteThey should continue with keep this game alive. I have been a member since the very beginning when it first began and I have watched it over the years progress. It is a seriously great and amazing game. I do though think it should go on a little more longer. But if there would be something like a Reboot/Relaunch of the Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures MMO Game would be a great interaction and probably make it leak into past the Clone Wars and into Star Wars Rebels, but all of this is more of my idea of what could happen.

ReplyDeletenever played this game..looked too cartoony. tho I hear they are replacing it with the First and best SW MMO that has ever been around....a Revision of SWG (Star Wars Galaxies) supposed to be a lot better and done differently aswell so don't give up hope...SWTOR sucks (played since beta and just recently ended sub) so Soney will obviously be bringing back a revision of SWG..too all u SWG Vets....Rejoice! me being a SWG vet makes me look forward to this :)

But with that said, I loved this game and I am 15 now and I want to play it even more, I grew up with Star Wars and I can't just leave it. Please bring it back, this game has so much potential now with everything happening in the Star Wars community, I'm 100% confident that many people will play this game if it came back and I even know many of my friends in my school who would personally love to bring this game back. Please understand that bringing it back would help the community more than anything and that you would make a giant number of people happy.

ReplyDeleteI am pretty much on the same page as Jamie Margeson on this one. I was about 9-10 when I discovered this game, and now I look back and remember how much fun it was. It would be amazing to see it come back and to enjoy it for many more years.
ReplyDeleteI have bought SWA And I will update it with kylo ren and other features it will be powered back up with microsoft and a 4GB download requirement. plus you can choose what side you want to be on (dark side ,lightside ) etc. Thank you for your cooperation this game will be back online and your data will be saved if you provide a good source of a username and a password so futher more the site will be powered back on in July,4,2016 Thank you.
